Astrological Influences of Saturn in Libra

One unique feature of Jyotish, or Vedic astrology, is its predictive capability.  By knowing what lies ahead, we can prepare ourselves for the journey, just as if we were packing for a trip. To determine when an event is likely to occur, Vedic astrologers utilize the placements of planets in the natal chart, as well as planetary transits (where they are today), and the timing of planetary cycles.

In Vedic astrology, we undergo planetary cycles throughout life. Our major cycle is known as a dasha and the minor cycle is a bhukti.  The most impactful transits are created by  planets which remain in a sign the longest, such as Saturn and Jupiter. Saturn occupies a sign for 2.5 years and Jupiter for 1 year.  I’ve previously written about Saturn’s movement into Libra in August, 2012, as well as what Saturn in Libra means for each of the 12 ascendants.  There are multiple possible permutations, yet a skilled Vedic astrologer can narrow down the range of possibilities and provide insight on the timing of events.  What follows are examples of how this powerful Saturn in Libra transit has manifested for certain individuals.

A man with a Cancer rising who is in a Jupiter dasha and Ketu bhukti has Saturn in Libra transiting the 4th house of education.  Jupiter is natally in the 4th house and Ketu is in the 10th.  For years, we have been discussing his career options. He’s chosen to return to school (4th house is education) and pursue a new phase in his career (10th house). Ketu represents foreigners and he has opted to study abroad. Jupiter is transiting his 11th house of aspirations.

A person with an Aries ascendant with Saturn transiting their 7th house of partnerships has been re-evaluating their marital situation and is in the process of divorcing. This person is in a Ketu dasha and Mercury bhukti.  Ketu is natally in the 10th house of career and Mercury is in the 7th.  This individual is exploring other professional partnerships as well.  I’ve been speaking with this person after their relationship for a number of years and times when both parties would need to exert a great deal of effort into keeping the marriage viable. Jyotish is a balance between free will and fate. They have both chosen to go their separate ways to pursue differing interests.

A woman with a Scorpio ascendant is in a Venus dasha. She natally has Venus in the 6th house along with Saturn. She has Saturn transiting her 12th house of isolation. After going through a period where she had to review her friendships (represented by the 11th house), she has become more inwardly reflective and much less social.  Astrologically, she has known for a number of years that this period was coming. We’ve also discussed some lucrative business opportunities that she can pursue during this time.

As predicted, a woman with a Pisces rising had entered into a relationship when Saturn entered her house of relationships (Virgo).  Just as it moved out of the 7th house and into the 8th house of transformation, she decided to put an end to the tumultuous relationship and is much happier now.

A man with a Cancer rising recently began his Venus dasha. Venus is in his 12th house of expense, along with Saturn.  He has Saturn transiting his 4th house of home life and has decided to purchase a home (signified by the 4th house) for his family (also 4th house) to have a more suitable living environment. Venus appreciates luxury and comfort.  Saturn signifies property.  He has been contemplating this for a few years, but I had advised him that it would not happen until Fall, 2012 at the earliest.

While it has only been a short while that we have had Saturn in Libra, it’s already created significant changes in many people’s lives. Saturn will continue to leave its mark on all of us as it moves through Libra in Vedic astrology for the next two years.
