Venus Transit 2012

The most unusual aspect of Venus’s extended stay in Taurus is that Venus will be transiting between the earth and face of the Sun on June 5th and 6th, 2012.  This rare alignment last occurred on June 8, 2004. The next time the Venus transit occurs will be in 2117.

Venus will appear as a small dot transiting over the bright Sun.  A transit is similar to an eclipse (we have an eclipse happening on June 4).  Although Venus’s diameter is approximately quadruple that of the Moon, Venus appears much smaller because it is much farther away from the Earth.  Venus and the Earth are similar in size and have often been called twin sisters.

As it did in 2004, the Venus transit once again occurs in Taurus, which is owned by Venus. Taurus represents your savings, family, speech, dietary habits, personal adornments, the face, and ingested items.  In Vedic astrology, Venus’s placement in Taurus and its current retrogression render it strong.  However, Venus and the Sun will be at the same degree, thus Venus will be totally combust.  In combustion, a planet is placed very close to the Sun and is unable to express its own qualities fully due to the glare of the Sun’s rays.

Venus signifies the qualities of love, beauty, romance, luxury, sensuality, pleasure, and passion. Venus also represents the romantic partner. The senses and desires will be heightened during this Venus transit, especially given the recent eclipse .

The Venus transit is happening in the constellation of Rohini or Aldebaran, or the “eye of the bull”.  In Vedic astrology, each constellation (nakshatra) has specific meanings.  The deity of Rohini is Brahma, the creator, thus there’s a connotation with growth and creation on all levels. In Rohini, whatever is planted can sprout, develop, and reach new heights. While Rohini can be very passionate and caring, it also has the tendency to become overly involved in the sensual side of life and become over-materialistic and self-centered. Given that the transit of Venus is happening in eye of the bull, the themes of being bull-headed and obstinate can also predominate in situations. And the transit is also happening in the fixed sign of Taurus, which is slow to promote change.

Think back to June, 2004. What was happening in your life then or shortly afterwards?  There was likely a significant personal or professional event, which served as the foundation of future happenstances for many years.

NASA advises against staring directly at the Sun without proper eyewear or it can cause permanent eye damage.

In the San Francisco area, the transit is happening from 3:06 pm to 9:50 pm on June 5. For timing in your zone, visit http://transitofvenus.nl/wp/where-when/local-transit-times/

Apparently some people still think astrology = the horoscopes they read in the newspaper! LOL Horoscopes only deal with a tiny fraction of , the Sun, because that fits best in a small space and is easiest to look up. Astrology does NOT try to fit everyone into 12 boxes. Contrary to popular belief, it has never been “debunked” by science because the ones trying to debunk it stop at the newspaper columns and never explore the subject in its entirety. In fact, most of the arguments used against it show a total and utter lack of understanding of what aotgslory actually is and what it actually does. How do I use aotgslory in everyday life? I use it to understand myself and the important people in my life better, to time my actions with greater success (scheduling writing time around good Mercury aspects for example), to understand the life cycles I’m going through, etc.I don’t believe the planets “make” anything happen to you, they’re only reflecting what is already happening via synchronicity. So when it comes to “predictions,” I feel is only able to predict archetypally. A particular aspect can play out in an infinite number of ways, but it can not “just mean anything,” it will stick to the archetypal themes of the planets, signs, houses and aspects involved. So I would say it can give me a kind of “mood” of a particular day, not the specific events that will happen. Generally I tend to have a better day if I’m acting in line with that “mood.”To me, it’s no more “fortune-telling” than estimating when a child will lose their baby teeth or forecasting the weather, and there’s no such thing as being 100% accurate. We’re astrologers: no powers expressed or implied. How often is the weather-man-or-woman 100% accurate? Yet they still keep their jobs and aren’t ridiculed for it.
