Jyotish, or Vedic astrology for July, 2016 poises us on the precipice of momentous planetary changes.  It brings a renewal of the Mars / Saturn conjunction, as well as a planetary war creating indecision.  The majority of astrological activity takes place in Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Scorpio.

American Independence Day bought us the arduous new Moon in Vedic astrology for July, 2016.  Ashadha amavasya was in Ardra nakshatra in Gemini, with Mercury and Venus also inhabiting the dual sign.  Gemini becomes less crowded as Venus enters emotional Cancer on July 7.  Nurturing, sentimentality, and togetherness take precedence in the romance department for those in a Venus cycle.  Mercury follows suit four days later.

IMG_3152Although Mars and Saturn are temporarily separated, Mars continues to be problematic.  The red planet has come out of retrogression in Libra and is moving quite sluggishly.  The match has been lit, but it’s a slow burn.  This creates more accidents and acts of aggression, both on a personal and global level.  With Mars being in the nakshatra of Vishakha, success comes before everything else. There is no defeatist attitude, but rather the adage: if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.

Mars and Saturn

Mars rejoins Saturn in Scorpio on July 12.  At that time, Mars is burning up Scorpio at one third of its normal speed.  Mars is happy to be re-inhabiting its home, but it is agitated by its roommate, the powerfully retrograde Saturn.  Both want to pursue their own agenda, and will not stop until they get their own way.  This intensifies next month when they collide. We will see more political turmoil, as well as large-scale natural disasters in the coming months.

A debilitated Moon keeps company with Mars and Saturn from July 14 to 16.  This makes for a volatile combination of passionate emotions, heightened sensitivities, and impulsive actions.

Adding to the intensity at this time is a planetary war between Mercury and Venus in Cancer from July 15 to 18.  This battle happens in the nakshatra of Pushya, the nurturer.  Themes of assistance and resistance will simultaneously manifest.  You may read more about this on my Facebook page.

On the 16th, the Sun joins the planetary party in Cancer.  This transit highlights career themes for sidereal Libra ascendants.  Fortunately, the Sun is not close enough to either Mercury or Venus to influence the planets by its bright luminosity.  Times when the Sun changes signs are always powerful for spiritual practices.

Full Moon in Vedic astrology for July, 2016

The full Moon in Vedic astrology for July, 2016 takes place in Capricorn on the 19th.  This is Ashadha Purnima, also known as Guru Purnima.  It’s one of the most auspicious days in the Indian calendar, as disciples honor their spiritual teachers.

IMG_2555Mercury joins Jupiter and Rahu in Leo on July 27.  While both Jupiter and Mercury are indicators of education, Rahu adds an unconventional, erratic dimension to what is topical and trendy, as well as the manner in which subjects are taught.  This is the last full month of the Guru Chandal yoga.  Jupiter is speedily making its way out of Leo. However, before it does so, there will be more dissent of established institutional and political arrangements, similar to Brexit.  Additionally, unconventional leaders will continue to gain popularity and hold sway over the masses.  This will continue to be much to the bewilderment of those who hold the opposing perspective.

As we prepare for a transformative month ahead in August, it is beneficial to get grounded during the month of July.  Heighten your spiritual practices. Don’t vacillate over conflicting emotions.  Take supplements to calm your anxiety.  See the bigger picture.  Vedic astrology is a karmic roadmap of your life.  Where is your GPS pointed?
